News: Here on the Salmon River, in up state New York and out on Lake Ontario.   We are most famous for our World Class river fishing. There are only a few places where you can catch the Salmon, Steelhead and Brown trout the size and frequency that we do here on the Salmon River. The Salmon River provides anglers an extraordinary fishing experience for trophy size Steelhead, Salmon and Brown Trout. The first large run of King and Coho Salmon into the Salmon River begins around the end of August. These early fish are bright and solid weighing between 18 - 40 lbs. Salmon continue to inhabit the river until the end of October. If you want to catch chrome fish, you should arrive in the first three weeks of September. Steelhead begin showing up from the middle of October on, feeding on salmon eggs from the King Salmon. By late October Steelhead will be spread throughout the entire river system. Quality Steelhead fishing continues throughout the cold winter months and into March, April, & May. Steelhead average from 6 - 12 lbs and are caught primarily with egg sacs and a variety of flies using fly-fishing, center-pin float fishing and spin fishing with a "noodle" style fishing rod. Along with the Steelhead, monster sized Brown Trout enter the Salmon River and other Lake Ontario tributaries in the fall feasting on Salmon eggs. The Steelhead and Brown trout actively feed all winter before returning to Lake Ontario in the spring. Our Brown trout average 4-5 pounds but are commonly caught in the 8-10 pound range and up to 20 pounds. Guide services for the Salmon River, Lake Ontario, and other local waters are provided throughout the year. For those outdoor enthusiasts that want to “do it on their own” we will provide up-to-the-moment information for the best possible fishing. Species fishing times are: Salmon: July (summer months in Lake Ontario) - November; Steelhead: All year (summer months in Lake Ontario; Brown Trout: All year (April - July in Lake Ontario with "monster" Browns in November); Walleye: May & June and Ice Fishing December - March. Native Brook and Rainbow Trout: May - October; Bass: June - November.  as you read the latest post on the catch of the day you will see that this message  holds true Harry and zeke both are catching Salmon this week already and more come
